Beautiful Ride But Misses Important Routes


‘Kaarwaan’ film had a great potential to be a classic addition in the genre of good road movies. Sadly the opportunity is wasted here, where the writer & director wants to convey too much, which then sadly converts into nothing gets discussed good enough. But you still don’t regret & many times enjoy this ride;  thanks to good performances, beautiful cinematography, great bgm  and if you notice the theme of too much mechanics interfering in human’s life & how human interaction , touch & nature are still better than mechanical life. Sadly this doesn’t get shown more as it was required. Instead much of the story still focuses on passion vs secured job which we have now seen so many times , that been there done that feeling never leaves us.

                                                                          


                                                                          In film we mainly see story of Avinash (Dulquer Salman) who is not happy with his job & interested in photography. But he does the job because of his father (Akash Khurana) wants him to do. One day he gets call that his father is died & his body has been sent to him. When he goes to collect, he finds that body is of some other lady whose daughter lives in Kochi & he assumes his father’s body must be at her place so he sets of to the journey with his friend Shaukat (Irfan) in his van. In the route they get joined by Tanya (Mithila Parkar) who is granddaughter of the lady who has died. In that journey they get closed to each other revealing their sides, happiness & sorrows. Does Avinash finds his father’s body? Does that lady gets the body of her mother? What about Avinash’s passion? For answer to all these questions, you have to see the film. 
                                                                    As discussed earlier, writer Bijoy nambiar’s story has some good moments and some great possibilities from it. But the story mainly focuses on Avinash’s story which is pretty much the same passion vs job security story. Director Akharsh Khurana’s screenplay & direction is also not that sort which can hide or convert the weakness of story into  strengths. It is pretty much you get what you see type. Good scenes & possibilities are pretty much in the film for instance man vs machine theme. Where in this mechanical society a man is not allowed to remorse for his father’s death.  He can’t enquire properly about the news; as in the call center, news is given by one employee but when he calls again some other picks up who has no information on this. Even in rather good electrical ‘Vidyut Dahini System’, son can’t see his father one last time & can’t perform his last rites himself.  In another scene in growing social media atmosphere, Avinash argues with Tanya how sites like Instagram  are worse and how photos taken naturally & artistic way are better. The cinematography of  the film is the solid  proof itself. Again in another wedding scene, Shaukat tells one Shehanai player who plays only in marriages to play for himself because he wasn’t happy. He plays his shehanai in front of the great Kerla landscape is a treat to watch both cinematically & metaphorically. 
                                                          But sadly these scenes are few and far between. We mostly get Avinash’s many time seen story. Only exception his him meeting his ex-girlfriend with some beautifully written scenes. But this part is a standalone good part which doesn’t contribute much to the film itself. Shaukat’s part runs good in first half but in the second half his story turns into the weakest part of the film. It’s definitely the weakest and forced part in the film. Tanya’s story is all right in parts.
                                                                Hussain Dalal’s dialogues are awesome though. They are so right in place that covers the loopholes of screenplay. Dialogues are soul of this film.  Cinematography & all other technical departments are first class.  Background Music & songs are  lovely which gives you right feel like you are on a trip riding in car surrounding you is a beautiful landscape of nature.
                                                                         Coming to the performances Dulquer Salman is first rate. It’s just his first Hindi film & he is never out of place. Those who have knowledge about the film world, they might know him as a main hero in the film ‘Ustad Hotel.’ He is Malayalam actor but here he is north Indian guy who is settled in Bangalore.  In one scene when he hears some guys speaking Malayalam, his face is as clueless about what’s happening as mine. So was his acting. Mithila Parkar as Tanya is a breath of fresh air who is a lovely girl & always leaves a smile on your face by her performance & also shows her rebel side. So she does whatever was required from her. Irfan is another wonderful actor as we all know. Here also he is exemplary with his performance. His facial expressions & dialogue delivery are tad awesome. Here he has to do comedy mainly but he is never off place. Even in some otherwise clichéd dialogues he is able to deliver a perfect laughter. But those dialogues are few & most of the dialogues are nice & as mentioned are soul of the film.
                                                                                So all & all ‘Kaarwaan’ is a good film with beautiful road trip which you will surely like. Sadly when there were possibilities of being something great & being a great statement, this film remains in just a good category.

डंकर्क- युद्धभूमीवर

सिनेमा म्हणजे फक्त गोष्ट नाही . सिनेमाला तांत्रिक अंगेही असतात . आपल्याकडे प्रेक्षकांना सिनेमाची गोष्ट हीच महत्वाची वाटते. त्यात काही चुकीचे नाही . कारण सिनेमा बघायला जाताना माणूस एक नवीन गोष्ट काय आहे हेच बघायला जातो . पण या तांत्रिक गोष्टींचा आस्वाद घेता आला तर अनेक गोष्टी हाती लागू शकतात. ख्रिस्तोफर नोलनचा 'डंकर्क ' हे त्याचं उत्तम उदाहरण .

ख्रिस्तोफर नोलन हा आज अत्यंत लोकप्रिय दिग्दर्शकांपैकी एक आहे . त्याच्या अनोख्या पटकथा आणि असामान्य शैलीमुळे त्याचे जवळजवळ सगळेच चित्रपट बघण्यासारखे झाले आहेत . समीक्षक आणि जाणकारांना मोमेंटो पासूनच त्याच्या श्रेष्ठत्वाची खूण पटली होती. पण नंतर डार्क नाइट चित्रत्रयीमुळे सामान्य रसिकांनाही तो आवडला आणि त्याचे चित्रपट यशस्वी ठरू लागले आणि उत्सुकता निर्माण करू लागले . पण यावेळेला त्याने फार मोठी गोष्ट किंवा आशय मांडलेला नाही . यावेळेला त्याचा भर अनुभवावर आहे . दिग्दर्शन आणि तंत्राच्या सहायाने तो प्रेक्षकांना सरळ युद्धभूमीवर घेऊन गेला आहे . प्रेक्षकांना त्या सैनिकांच्या अवस्थेशी समरस करण्याचा त्याचा प्रयत्न आहे .

चित्रपटाचं कथानक थोडक्यात असं: दुसर्‍या महायुद्धात जर्मनीने फ्रेंच भूभाग ताब्यात घेतला आहे . इंग्लंड आणि फ्रेंच सैनिक डंकर्कला अडकू न पडलेत. त्यांना आता फक्त तिथूनच परत मायदेशात जाणं शक्य आहे . कारण इतर सर्व मार्ग जर्मन सैन्याने बंद केले आहेत . डंकर्कच्या किनार्‍यावरसुद्धा जर्मन सैन्य सतत हल्ला करत आहे. त्यामुळे त्यांना तिथून सुखरूप पोहोचवण्याची जबाबदारी आहे . त्यांना सुखरूप पोहोचवण्यासाठी तीन मार्गानी लढावे लागणार आहे . जमीन , पाणी आणि आकाश . हे युद्ध तीन पातळ्यांवर चालते . जमिनीवर सैनिक असतात ते समुद्रकिनार्‍यावर आणि प्रत्यक्ष शहरात. त्यांना सुटका हवी असते . एक सामान्य नागरिक त्याच्या मुलांसह आपली बोट घेऊन सैनिकाना परत आणण्यासाठी स्वखुशीने जातो तो पाण्याचा भाग आणि हवाई हल्ल्यांना मोडून काढण्यासाठी तीन विमाने जातात तो आकाश युद्धाचा भाग .

नोलनने ही कथा प्रेक्षकांपर्यंत पोहोचवण्यासाठी तितकेच प्रभावी दिग्दर्शन केलं आहे . त्याच्या आवडत्या नोन लिनियर शैलीत त्याने मांडणी केली आहे . म्हणजे अनेक्रेशीय पद्धतीने . तो हा कथाभाग बराच उलटपालटा दाखवतो . त्याचा फायदा म्हणजे नेमक्या क्षणाला वेगवेगळ्या ठिकाणी काय चालू आहे याचा एक सलग अनुभव आपल्याला मिळतो . उदा. हवेत विमानांचे युद्ध चालू असताना बोट घेऊन जणार्‍याना काय वाटते किंवा ज्यावेळी एका विमानाचा बॉम्ब जहाजावर पडतो नेमक्या त्या क्षणी जमिनीवर आणि वैमानिकाच्या मनात काय चाललेले असते , एकाच वेळी दोन घटना कशा घडतात त्याची पार्श्व्भुमी काय अशा अनेक प्रकारच्या गोष्टी अशा प्रकारच्या दिग्दर्शकीय शैलीमुळे छान दिसतात . त्यात या सिनेमात संवाद अतिशय कमी आहेत . बराचसा भर दृश्य आणि ध्वनी अशा तांत्रिक गोष्टींवर आहे . सिनेमा सुरू झाल्यानंतरच्या पहिल्याच दृश्यात ते सैनिक डंकर्क मध्ये कैद असतानाची अवस्था दाखवली आहे . सैनिक हताशपणे फिरत आहेत आणि त्यांच्यावर कागद पडत आहेत . त्या कागदावर त्या ठिकाणचा नकाशा आहे आणि त्याच्या आजूबाजूचा प्रदेश जर्मन अधिपत्याखाली आहे . त्यावर एकच वाक्य लिहिलेले आहे . 'You are surrounded.' या एकाच दृश्यात दिग्दर्शक बरच काही सांगून जातो .

त्यानंतर तिथून बाहेर पडायची धडपड सुरू होते. नोलनने या सैनिकांची पार्श्व्भुमी , त्यांचे विचार अस काही दाखवलं नाहीये. त्यात यात कुणी मुख्यही नाही. त्यामुळे तिथे अडकलेल्या सगळ्यांचीच ती कहाणी होते . जमीन , पाणी आणि आकाश प्रत्येकाची एक वेगळी टाइम लाइन आहे . जमीन एक आठवडा ज्यात तो एक आठवडा त्या सैनिकांचा प्रवास मांडतो. पाणी एक दिवस ज्यात सामान्य माणूस बोट घेऊन सैनिकांची मदत करण्यासाठी जातो . त्याचा प्रवास दाखवला आहे . हवेतील प्रवास एक तास होतो . ज्यात जर्मन लोकांच्या हवाई हल्ल्याला तोंड देण्यासाठी लढाऊ विमाने जातात. त्यांचे युद्ध एक तास होते . नोलन या तिन्ही लढाया त्यांच्या त्या त्या जागेवरून दाखवतो . यात आधी म्हणल्याप्रमाणे दिग्दर्शक म्हणून त्याचं सामर्थ्य दिसतं.

हा अनुभव प्रत्ययकारी होण्यासाठी संगीताचा मोठा वाटा आहे. हॅन्स झिमर ने हे संगीत दिले आहे . संगीत हे एक डिवाइस म्हणून झिमर आणि नोलन वापरतात . आणि वेळ सुद्धा. घड्याळाची टिकटिक सतत सुरू असते . वेळ जात चालल्याची जाणीव करून देत असते . ती थांबवणे आणि चालू करणे अत्यंत हुशारीने केले आहे . शांतता हा सुद्धा साऊंड इफेक्टचाच एक भाग इथे होतो . विशेषत: सैनिकांच्या प्रसंगात (म्हणजे एक आठवडा चालणार्‍या गोष्टीत ) संगीत जास्तच शार्प होतं. फोले इफेक्टचा ( नेहमीच्या आजूबाजूच्या छोट्या हालचालींचा आवाज) उपयोग खूप सुंदर केला आहे . नारळ कापताना किंवा त्यांच्यावर गोळीबार होताना हे स्पष्ट जाणवतं. इथे दिग्दर्शकाला सैनिकांच्या अवस्थेशी समरस करण्यासाठी विशिष्ट भागातल्या त्या धारदार संगीताचा उपयोग होतो . खुर्चीला खिळवून ठेवणारं संगीत संपूर्ण सिनेमात अनुभवता येते.

कॅमेरा आणि छायाचित्रण तर आणखीनच प्रभावी आहे . कम्प्युटर ग्राफिक्सचा वापर न करता हा सिनेमा शूट केला आहे . त्यामुळे हवेतले विमान युद्धाचे सीन शूट करण खरच अवघड होतं. ते प्रभावीपणे केले आहे . नोलन ने हा सिनेमा मुद्दाम आयमॅक्स वर शूट केला आहे . त्यामुळे दृश्याला एक मोठा आवाका मिळतो . आणि प्रेक्षक म्हणून हा अनुभव जास्तच जवळून आपल्याला दिसतो . पण ज्यावेळी भव्यता किंवा भीषणता हवी असेल तेव्हा त्याने आयमॅक्स कॅमेरा वापरला आहे पण जेव्हा एका विशिष्ट फ्रेम वर किंवा संवादांवर त्याला प्रेक्षकाने लक्ष एकाग्र कारायला हव आहे तेव्हा त्याने नेहमीचा कॅमेरा वापरुन फोकस तीव्र ठेवला आहे .

त्यानंतर त्याने कमाल दाखवली आहे ती पात्र रेखाटनात. एक तर सर्वच पात्रांना एक चांगला आलेख आहे . पण सगळ्यात रंगलं आहे ते सिलियन मर्फीचं पात्र. स्पोईलर अलर्ट : Stop तो अत्यंत उध्वस्त मानसिक अवस्थेत सापडतो. आणि नंतर फ्लॅशबॅक मधून त्याचा आत्मविश्वास आणि कठोरपणा दिसतो . नंतरचा उद्ध्वस्तपणा हा जीवघेण्या हल्ल्यामुळे झाला आहे . स्पोईलर अलर्ट समाप्त. Good ते प्रत्यक्ष न दाखवताही दिग्दर्शक त्याचा पूर्ण परिणाम केवळ व्यक्तिरेखाटनातून दाखवतो . अर्थात अभिनेत्यांची साथ तितकीच महत्वाची!

आता या चित्रपटात दोष ही आहेत . एक तर कथा साधी आणि predictable आहे . दूसर म्हणजे ही सर्वच सैनिकांची गोष्ट आहे . त्यामुळे कुणा एकावर जास्त काळ रेंगाळता येत नाही . त्यांची स्वत:ची काही आधीची काही पार्श्वभूमी नाही . त्यामुळे या सुटकानाट्यात भावनिकरीत्या प्रेक्षक गुंतत नाही .

पण तरी ही यातला आशय महत्वाचा आहे . आता वाचकांना वाटेल की मी आधी कथेच्या predictability विषयी बोलत होतो आणि तांत्रिक गोष्टींची स्तूती करत होतो , तर आता असं का म्हणतोय ? तर तसं नाही . तांत्रिक बाजू सुंदर आहे आणि कथा सुद्धा नोलनच्या इतर चित्रपटांच्या तुलनेत साधी आहे . पण तरी युद्धाची भीषणता, मित्र देशांचे सुद्धा आपसातले स्वार्थ, छोटयातला छोटा माणसाचं महत्व , राष्ट्राची जडणघडण , माणसांची मनोवृत्ती , माघारीचं महत्व , हिंमत आणि मानवी अस्तित्वाला कारण असणारा आशावाद या अनेक मुद्द्यांवर नोलन भाष्य करतो .

हा चित्रपट सर्वच प्रेक्षकांना आवडेल असं मी म्हणणार नाही . मला वैयक्तिरीत्या तो आवडला आहे पण तो नोलनचा सर्वोत्कृष्ट चित्रपट नक्कीच नाही . पण एक मात्र नक्की . तो सर्वच प्रेक्षकांसाठी चुकवू नये असा अनुभव आहे . हा चित्रपट तुम्ही आयमॅक्स स्क्रीन आणि योग्य साऊंड मध्ये पाहिलात तर प्रत्यक्ष युद्दभूमीवर असल्याचा तुम्हाला फील येईल.

31 जानेवारी 2018 चे चंद्रग्रहण - काही 'वेगळ्या' अंधश्रद्धा


31 जानेवारी 2018 रोजी खगोलप्रेमींसाठी पर्वणी होती. कारण त्या दिवशी खग्रास चंद्रग्रहण , ब्लु मुन डे आणि सुपरमुन असा तिहेरी योग जुळून आला. या ग्रहणकाळात अनेक अंधश्रद्धा दिसल्या. अनेकदा दिसतात. मी  सर्वसामान्य म्हणजे या काळात काही खाऊ नये , दान करावे , बाहेर पडू नये वगैरे अंधश्रद्धांबद्दल बोलत नाहीये. त्यावर बर्‍याच जणांच बोलून झालय आणि बोलतही आहेत. एवढे सगळे प्रयत्न होऊनही 'कळतं पण वळत नाही' अशी समाजाची स्थिती आहे. या छोट्याश्या लेखात मी त्याविषयी नाही तर काही 'वेगळ्या' थोड्याश्या खगोलीय अंधश्रद्धांविषयी बोलणार आहे.

1. निळा चंद्र : ही सर्वात मोठी अंधश्रद्धा . 'ब्लु मुन' ही टर्म पाहून लोक असा समज करून घेतात. पण  ब्लु मुन म्हणजे चंद्र निळा दिसत नाही. तर ब्लु मुन म्हणजे दोन पौर्णिमांचा महिना असलेला दिवस. म्हणजे ज्या महिन्यात दोन पौर्णिमा असतात त्याच्या दुसर्‍या पौर्णिमेला ब्लु मुन डे म्हणतात. त्या दिवशी चंद्र निळा दिसत नाही. काही लोककथांमध्ये निळ्या चंद्राचा उल्लेख आहे. पण त्याचा याच्याशी काही संबंध नाही.

2. इंद्रधंनुषी चंद्र : काही जणांचा असा समज होता की चंद्र अनेक रंगांच्या छटा दाखवणार. पण तसं झाल नाही.  चंद्र  लालच दिसला. याच कारण काय ?

3. लाल चंद्र : ग्रहण काळात चंद्र लाल दिसतो. चंद्रग्रहणात पृथ्वीची सावली चंद्रावर पडते. पृथ्वी सूर्य आणि  चंद्राच्या मध्ये आल्यामुळे पृथ्वीच्या वातावरणातून  सूर्याची किरणे विखुरली गेल्यासारखी होतात. पण या सर्व रंगांमध्ये लाल रंगाची तरंगलांबी सर्वात जास्त असते. त्यामुळे सर्वात कमी विखुरला जातो . म्हणूनच तो रंग एरवीही उठून दिसतो. चंद्रग्रहणातही हेच होतं. याच कारणाने वर म्हणल्याप्रमाणे चंद्र  अनेक रंगांच्या छटा दाखवत नाही.

4. कालावधी : काही जणांना असे वाटले की आता ब्ल्यु मून , सुपर मून आणि ग्रहण हा योग आता 150 वर्षांनीच परत दिसणार. पण तसं नाही. याआधी मात्र ही घटना 150 वर्षांपूर्वी घडली होती. पण यानंतर मात्र 31 डिसेंबर 2028 ला हाच योग पुन्हा येणार आहे. त्यामुळे अनेकांना तो परत बघता येईल.

5. सुपरमून- सुपरमून म्हणजे  ज्यावेळी पृथ्वी आणि चंद्र यांच्यातलं अंतर सर्वात कमी असतं. त्यावेळी चंद्र आपल्याला अर्थातच मोठा दिसतो.

6. चंद्रग्रहण कसे पहावे : बर्‍याच लोकांना ही गोष्ट हास्यास्पद वाटेल पण काही जणांना चंद्रग्रहण  नुसत्या डोळ्यांनी पाहता येणार नाही , डोळ्याला त्रास होईल असे वाटते. पण हे सूर्याच्या बाबतीत खरे आहे . सूर्यातून हानिकारक किरण येत असतात. त्यामुळे सूर्यग्रहण नुसत्या डोळ्यांनी पाहू नये. पण चंद्रग्रहण तसं पाहता येते.

Just Standing On The Wicket , Enough ?

When we talk about classic Test cricket, we often talk about skill required for batsman to survive on such testing conditions. Indeed those skills are required. But is test cricket only about protecting your wicket & play defensive? Not to forget the game’s most successful batsman still is Don Bradman who has the average of 99.94 ! But because of the format and some players who preferred to play slow to save their wickets and this format allowed them to do so because of its very nature . So spectators started to blame Test Cricket for players inabilities or psychology and also because of introduction of shorter formats like T-20 , where you are forced to hit every ball.

But some batsmen are still there who are recognized as Test specialist because they can stay longer on the wicket. But is that enough? This question arises looking at India’s test batsman Cheteshvar Pujara looking at how he played at first innings in 1st Test between India vs. South Africa. Now don’t get me wrong . Pujara is a great player & I really value him as a player . But here what I want to comment about the mindset by which India shouldn’t go in a match like this .

Pujara came to bat on the evening of day 1 when India lost a wicket quickly & was in trouble even after managing to restrict SA for a cheap score . When Pujara came India were 16-1 & was of course in trouble. Pujara played till sometime after lunch on day 2 and played almost 100 balls . But when Pujara got out, India was on 76-5 that means in still more trouble. So what was the use of Pujara’s experience . By experience I mean not overall but in this particular innings, where he had spent ample time on the wicket and was a well set batsman. You expect something from your top batsman that too when he gets set once, that he will take out of this position. But for that you have to play positive and play each ball on it’s merit and should not hesitate to play shots as and when required. Sadly Pujara didn’t show that intent and continued playing defensively . Which of course wasn’t enough .

Whereas when Pandya came, he played aggressively. Of course ball was old that time & wicket more playable but here intent was important. He was lucky initially but he rode on his luck. He scored 93 in just 95 balls and because of that India reached to at least a respectable score.Now am not advocating Pandya’s way of batting also. He had luck on his side. He batted rather fiercely. But couldn’t do so in second innings because he was trying to do the same .

This is what the problem with India is . They are either too defensive or too attacking . But they have to play each ball on it’s merit. But as the captain Virat Kohli said, ” We need to have intent because the kind of bowling attack they have - especially on these pitches they get extra bounce and they get extra pace off the wicket - you can't be in a zone of not having intent and see off 35-40 overs. You need to find the perfect balance to do well in South Africa especially where there is more bounce.” Hope the team remembers it next time including captain Kohli.

सुजाणांची हताशा ('A Walk in the woods' नाटक समीक्षा )

                  (नाटक इंग्रजीत आहे . ज्यांना संपूर्ण कोरी पाटी हवी आहे त्यांनी बघितल्यावर वाचावे.)



ली ब्लेस्सिंग च्या 'अ वॉक इन द वुड्स ' याच नावच्या नाटकाचे हे भारतीय रूपांतर आहे . रत्ना पाठकने हे दिग्दर्शित केले आहे . रजित कपूर आणि नसीरुद्दीन शाह हे दोनच कलाकार त्यात आहेत . लेखाचे शीर्षक हीच नाटकाची थीम आहे . या सुजाण पात्रांप्रमाणे प्रेक्षकाला सुद्धा ही हताशा जाणवते . पण तरी एक दर्जेदार कलाकृती पाहिल्याचे समाधान घेऊनच प्रेक्षक घरी परततो . 






                                                                राम चिनप्पा (रजित कपूर ) हा भारतीय दूत आणि जमालुद्दीन लुफ्तुल्लाह (नासिर) हा पाकिस्तानी दूत जीनीवाला शांतिप्रस्तावावर चर्चा करायला भेटतात. नेहमीप्रमाणे टेबलवर बसून वाटाघाटी करण्यापेक्षा आपण निसर्गाच्या जवळ म्हणजे झाडांमध्ये बसून बोलूया म्हणून जमाल सुचवतो . 'नो नॉनसेन्स' पद्धतीच्या रामला ते अजिबात मान्य नाही . पण हा प्रस्ताव मार्गी लागावा म्हणून तो जमालची अट मान्य करतो . पण तरी जमालला प्रस्तावापेक्षा गप्पा आणि मैत्री यातच जास्त रस असतो . तो प्रस्तावावर चर्चा करायला आणि स्वतच्या वरिष्कठाडे तसेच पंतप्राधांनांकडे घेऊन जायला नाखुशच असतो . त्यापेक्षा त्यांची मैत्री वाढवण्यातच त्याला रस असतो . पण का ? शेवटी राम मैत्री चालू ठेवायची असेल तर हा प्रस्ताव पाकिस्तानी पंतप्रधानांकडे नेऊन दे म्हणून बजावतो. नाइलाजाने तो देतो . प्रस्ताव हा त्यालाही १००% योग्य वाटतो . पण तो मंजूर होणार नाही याची त्याला खात्री असते . त्याच्या अपेक्षेप्रमाणेच तो नामंजूर होतो . त्याचं कारण एवढेच की हा प्रस्ताव भारताने तयार केला आहे . आणि तो जर मंजूर झाला तर भारताला श्रेय मिळेल ! राम हताश होतो . शेवटी तो सुचवतो की आपण व्यक्तिश: दोघे मिळून एक आदर्श प्रस्ताव तयार करूया . तो कुणा एका राष्ट्राचा असणार नाही . जमालही त्याला मान्यता देतो . दोघे विचार करून एक आदर्श प्रस्ताव तयार करतात आणि एकमेकांच्या प्रमुखांना दाखवायला नेतात . आणि ...... 






                                                           युद्ध कोणालंच नको आहे . पण खरच तस आहे का ? वेळोवेळी तर ही युद्धखोरी आणि असहिष्णूता वाढतच चालली आहे . ( हे नाटक आत्ता नाही तर फार पूर्वी लिहिले आहे . आणि ते अमेरिकेत लिहिले आहे . म्हणजे हा प्रॉब्लेम संपूर्ण मानवजातीचा होतो आणि त्यामुळे जास्तच गंभीर होतो.) जर कुणी आपल्यावर हल्ला करत असेल तर आक्रमक होण्यात काही वाईट नाही . पण अनेक गोष्टींकडे लक्ष देण्याची गरज असताना ही युद्धखोरी मुद्दाम जोपासली जात असेल तर ? ज्याने मुख्य प्रश्न बाजूला पडावेत ? प्रेक्षकाला विचार करायला भाग पडतो . 



                                                           पण तरीही या नाटकाचा विषय हा नाही . दोन संपूर्ण विरुद्ध परिस्थितील व्यक्तींचं एकत्र येणे , आणि एकाच कारणासाठी दु:खी असणं आणि शेवटी एकमेकांचे सांत्वन करण हे खरं महत्वाचं आहे. एका अर्थाने ते एकमेकांमध्ये solace शोधतात. दोन सुजाण व्यक्तींना काही गोष्टी जाणवतात . ते सुधारण्याचा त्यांचा मनापासून प्रयत्न आहे . पण आजूबाजूची परिस्थितीच त्यांना साथ देत नाही . ते अल्पमतात आहेत हे त्यांना जाणवतं . आणि त्याहीपेक्षा आपल्या कामाला आणि हुद्द्याला काही अर्थ नाही . आपल्याला करण्यासारखं काहीच नाही याने त्यांना वैफल्य येते . आपली कुणाला गरजच नाही ही ती हताशा आहे . राम त्या जागेवर नुकताच आला आहे . कुणाला जमले नाही ते आपण करून दाखवू म्हणून त्याच्यात अमाप आत्मविश्वास आहे . नंतर त्याला त्याची निरर्थकता पटते आणि त्याला नैराश्याचा झटका येतो . तो स्वत:ला जमालच्या साथीने सावरू पाहतो.






                                                          जमालला आधीच या सगळ्याची निरर्थकता पटलेली आहे . त्यामुळे हे करण्यात त्याला काहीच रस वाटत नाही . त्यापेक्षा आलो आहोत तर निसर्गाच्या सानिध्यात मन रमवावे , समोरच्या माणसाशी मैत्री करावी , गप्पा माराव्यात (या गप्पांमध्येच दोन्ही देशांच्या मैत्रीची खरी शक्यता आहे असेही सुचवले जाते आणि त्या गप्पा एक प्रतीक बनतात) हे त्याला जास्त बरं वाटतं . ज्यावेळी दोघे मिळून स्वत : चा एक प्रस्ताव बनवतात तेव्हा त्याला पुन्हा एक आशा वाटू लागते . स्पोईलर अलर्ट : पण अहंकारामुळे दोन्ही देशांचे पंतप्रधान हा प्रस्ताव फेटाळतात. स्पोईलर अलर्ट समाप्त.  मग जमाल निवृत्ती घेतो आणि नैराश्याचा झटका आलेल्या रामला ही तेच सुचवतो. जर तू ते केलं नाहीस तर तुझ्या संवेदनशील मनामुळे तू विझुन जाशील असे त्याला बजावतो . या सर्व मांडणीत दोघांची व्यक्तिरेखा अत्यंत विचारपूर्वक लिहिली आहे .




                                                            नाटकाची नर्म विनोदी हाताळणी त्रासदायक वास्तवाला सुसह्य बनवते पण वास्तवाला ओवरलॅप करत नाही . नाटकात नेपथ्य ही एकच आहे . पण ते आशय मांडायला पुरेसं आहे . अनेक संवाद टाळ्या घेतात. पण ते टाळीबाज नाहीत . ते हुशारीने लिहिल्याचे जाणवते . खर तर वर म्हणल्याप्रमाणे नाटक हे रूपांतरित आहे . पण त्याचे रूपांतरित असणे अजिबात जाणवत नाहीत . इतके संवाद इथल्या वातावरणात मिसळून जातात . जमालचा शेवटचा संवाद : "Look at those beautiful trees , soon they will be cut to make negotiating tables ." अंगावर काटा आणतो . असे अनेक संवाद नाटकात आहेत . च्युइंगगमचा संवाद रामचे नैराश्य आणि त्याला जोडलेली प्रतीके अचूक पकडतो .




                                                            रजित कपूर आणि नरीरुद्दीन शाह यांचा अभिनय अप्रतिम आहे . कडक शिस्तीचा आणि नो नॉनसेन्स प्रकारचा राम रजित कपूर अचूक पकडतो . त्याच्या आवाजातला कडकपणा आणि त्याच वेळेला असलेली काळजी आणि इच्छा लाजवाब . नसीरुद्दीन शाहने जमाल सुंदर रंगवला आहे . त्याची हताशा त्याने केवळ नजरेतून सुंदर प्रकट केली आहे . त्याची व्यथा त्याच्या आवजातून येतेच . पण काही अंशी आता त्याचा अभिनय predictable ही वाटतो. विरामाच्या जागांचा अचूक वापर दोघांनीही केला आहे .

                                                             रत्ना पाठक ने दिग्दर्शन योग्य रीतीने केले आहे . प्रयोग छान बांधीव झाला आहे . असलेल्या अनेक जागा व्यवस्थित शोधल्या आहेत . प्रकाशयोजना नाटकाला आवश्यक असणारी दिवसातली वेळ आणि त्यापेक्षाही वेगवेगळे मूड्स अचूक पकडते . वेशभूशेचा इथला उपयोग तर फारच जमला आहे . पहिल्यांदा भेटतात तेव्हा दोघांची फॉर्मल वेशभूषा आणि नंतर बदलणारी आणि शेवटी पुर्णपणे होणारी इन्फॉर्मल वेशभूषा त्या दोघांची वाढत जाणारी जवळीक दाखवते .

                                                         चूक काढायची म्हणली तेर असं म्हणता येईल की त्या दोघांची मैत्री पुरेसा वेळ न देता लगेच होते . पण मध्ये अनेक महिन्यांचा काळ जात असल्याने ही चूक फार मोठी नाही .




                                                           एकंदरीत हे नाटक अजिबात चुकवू नये असे आहे .


म्हारी छोरिया छोरोंसे कम है के ? ('दंगल' समीक्षा)


(मी जिथे मोठे स्पॉइलर्स आहेत तिथे तसे लिहिलेले आहे .बायोपिक असल्यामुळे त्यात रहस्य काही नाही . पण तरी चित्रपटातले काही तपशील उघड होऊ शकतात. ज्यांना पूर्ण कोरी पाटी हवी आहे त्यांनी चित्रपट बघितल्यावरच वाचावे.) 
                     

                                                    लेखाच्या शीर्षकाचे आणि 'दंगल' चित्रपटच्या पोस्टर वरचे हे वाक्यच या चित्रपटाचा सर्वात महत्वाचा मुद्दा आहे . हा चित्रपट सांगू पाहतो आणि त्याचा आशय हाच आहे . जेव्हा तो या सूत्राला धरून राहतो तेव्हा खूप चांगला वाटतो . पण हे प्रत्येक वेळी होत नाही आणि स्पीडब्रेकर जाणवतात. पण तरी हा चित्रपट नक्कीच पाहण्यासारखा आहे . आणि हो शक्यतो थिएटर मधेच !




                                                   चित्रपटाची कथा थोडक्यात अशी : महावीर फोगाट (आमीर खान ) हा नॅशनल लेवलचा एक पहिलवान. आर्थिक परिस्थिती आणि नोकरीची गरज म्हणून नाइलाजाने कुस्ती सोडावी लागलेला. देशासाठी सुवर्णपदक जिंकण्याचं त्याचं स्वप्न आपला मुलगा तरी पूर्ण करेल ही त्याला आशा . पण मुलाऐवजी चारी मुलीच झाल्यामुळे तो प्रचंड निराश होतो . पुढे एका प्रसंगात त्याच्या गीता आणि बबिता ( जाइरा वासीम आणि सुहानी भटनागर ) या मुली मुलांपेक्षा कुठेही कमी नाहीत हे त्याच्या लक्षात येते आणि तो त्यांना अत्यंत खडतरपणे आणि प्रसंगी जबरदस्ती करून कुस्तीसाठी तयार करतो . पुढे दोघी विविध टप्पे पार करून वाटचाल करत राहतात. मोठ्या झाल्यावर गीता आणि बाबिताची (फातिमा शेख आणि सान्या मल्होत्रा) पाटीलयाला येथील संस्थेसाठी निवड होते आणि देशासाठी खेळण्याची संधी मिळते .




                                                     चित्रपटात मुख्यत्वे गीताच्या कारकीर्दीवर फोकस ठेवलेला आहे . पण बबिता अनेक महत्वाच्या ठिकाणी दिसत राहते . मगाशी म्हणल्याप्रमाणे चित्रपट जेव्हा मुली मुलांपेक्षा कुठेही कमी नाहीत हे सूत्र धरून राहतो तेव्हा खूप छान गुंतवून ठेवतो . पहिल्या भागात म्हणजे त्या पटियालच्या संस्थेत जाईपर्यंत अशा जागा भरपूर आहेत आणि तेव्हा चित्रपट खूप चांगला वाटतो . महावीरला मुली होत राहणे आणि त्याची निराशा , चारी मुलीच झाल्यावर निराश होऊन त्याची सगळी मेडल्स आत ठेवून देणे , मग तो साक्षात्कारसारखा प्रसंग , मुलींना शिकण्याची सक्ती , मुलींच्या टाळण्यासाठी क्लूपत्या , मग त्या पार्टीत त्यांच्या मैत्रिणींनी दिलेली जाणीव आणि मग त्यांचे मतपरिवर्तन , त्या 'तयार' झाल्यावर त्यांना मुलांशी लढण्यासाठी वेगवेगळ्या ठिकाणी घेऊन जाणे , आयोजकांचा नकार आणि मुलींना 'बघायला' प्रेक्षक येतील म्हणून परवानगी देणे ,काहींचा हट्टी नकार , आणि गीताने आपल्या कामगिरीतून सगळ्यांनाच एक उत्तर देणे अशा अनेक अप्रतिम जागा त्यात आहेत आणि त्या खिळवून ठेवतात .




                                                 हा पहिला भाग असा खिळवणारा झाला आहे . आपल्याला तो गीताच्या (आणि बाबिताच्या) सुखदुक्खाशी समरस करतो . यातली अजून एक चांगली गोष्ट म्हणजे तो आपल्याला महावीरविषयी मत बनवण्याची मुभा देतो . तो ज्याप्रकारे जबरदस्ती करतो हे चूक आहे असे बर्‍याच जणांचे मत असेल. आमीर खान हीरो असून सुद्धा चित्रपट त्याची ही कठोर बाजू दाखवतो आणि त्यावर उगाच मलमपट्टी करत नाही. या मुली सुद्धा पहिल्यांदा त्या टाळण्यासाठी खूप खटपटी करतात पण स्पॉइलर अलर्ट सुरू : त्यांच्या मैत्रिणीनी त्यांना कुस्ती खेळायची नसेल तर घरकाम करत आयुष्य काढावे लागेल दूसरा पर्याय नाही ही जाणीव दिल्यावर त्यांचे ते स्वीकारणे स्पोईलर अलर्ट समाप्त हे सुद्धा जमले आहे . अशी परिस्थिति असणे खर तर चुकीचे किंवा वाईट आहे पण ते त्यांच्यापुरते तरी कटू असले तरी सत्य आहे .



                                                        याचा अर्थ असा नाही की पहिल्या भागात काही प्रॉब्लेम नाहीत . अर्थातच आहेत . अति विनोदी हातळणी हा मोठा प्रॉब्लेम झाला आहे . त्यामुळे बाप जबरदस्तीने या गोष्टी करत असताना मुलींची मनोवस्था (केस कापण्याचा प्रसंग सोडून ) दिसतच नाही . त्या आपल्या खोडकर पद्धतीने ते टाळण्याकडे तरी झुकतात किंवा तो वेगवेगळे आदेश देतो तेव्हा हावभावावरून विनोद निर्मिती करतात . पुन्हा आई , नातेवाईक आणि समाजाच्या विरोधाचे प्रसंग सुद्धा टिक मारल्यासारखे एकेका प्रसंगात आटपले आहे . अशा प्रसंगत समाज नुसता बोलून गप्प बसत नाही . तर होऊ न देण्यासाठी खूप प्रयत्न करतो . असो!


                                                          पण या चित्रपटात खरा प्रॉब्लेम दुसर्‍या भागात सुरू होतो . खर तर गीताच्या डोक्यात हवा जाने आणि गीता आणि बबिताचे parallel लाइफ आणि अर्थातच कुस्ती मॅच ही गोष्ट दुसर्‍या भागात नाट्य निर्माण करायला पुरेशी होती . पण पहिल्या भागात न केलेली गोष्ट दिग्दर्शक दुसर्‍या भागात करतो आणि ती म्हणजे आमिरच्या व्यक्तिरेखेला फिल्मी पद्धतीने हीरो बनवण्याचा प्रयत्न . या प्रयत्नात आमीरला हीरो बनवण्यासाठी संस्थेतला कोच (गिरीश कुलकर्णी) या पात्राला उगीचच खलनायक बनवले जाते . आता हा जे काही सांगतो त्यात चुकीचे काय आहे ? नवीन गोष्टी आणि तंत्र काही शिकायचेच नसेल तर सगळ्याच शिक्षण संस्था बंद कराव्या लागतील . आता सचिन तेंडुलकरची निवड भारतीय संघात झाली . असे झाल्यावर त्याने काही नवीन गोष्टी , काही advance technique किंवा युक्त्या शिकायला नकोत का ? भारतीय संघाच्या कोच चे सल्ले ऐकायला नकोत का ? अतिरेक वाईटच असतो . पण मी या कोच चे सल्ले ऐकणार नाही मी कायम आचरेकर सरांनी शिकवल्यासारखाच किंवा even worse भाऊ अजित जे सांगतो तसच करणार अस कसं चालेल ? नेमकी हीच गोची इथे झालेली आहे . मग त्याच्या पात्राला तो चुकीचा आहे हे दाखवण्यासाठी विलन ठरवले जाते . शेवटच्या अत्यंत फिल्मी प्रसंगात स्पॉइलर अलर्ट सुरू : महावीरला गीताच्या फायनल मॅच ला येऊ न देण्यासाठी कोच ने त्याला खोलीत डांबून ठेवण्यापर्यंत मजल जाते . स्पॉइलर अलर्ट समाप्त असं खरच झालं असेल ?


                                                     दुसर्‍या भागात सुद्धा चांगल्या गोष्टी आहेत . मगाशी म्हणल्याप्रमाणे गीताच्या डोक्यात हवा जाने आणि गीता आणि बबिताचे parallel लाइफ आणि अर्थातच कुस्ती. गीताच्या शेवटच्या मॅच च्या वेळी एक छोटी मुलगी महावीरला प्रसाद देते आणि नंतर महावीर गीताला जे सांगतो ते सुद्धा अत्यंत छान पटकथेचे उदाहरण आहे .



                                                     गीता आणि बबीता सकरणार्‍या चारी अभिनेत्रींनी आपली कामे खूप छान केली आहेत . खर तर छोट्या मुलींचे जास्त कौतुक कारण एक नॉर्मल स्कूलगर्ल ते अत्यंत आत्मविश्वासी पहिलवान हा फरक त्यांनी छान दाखवला आहे . मोठ्या अभिनेत्रींनी सुद्धा त्यांचे काम छान पुढे नेले आहे आणि नंतरच्या प्रसंगत स्वतची छाप सोडली आहे . रोहित आणि अपरशक्ती खुराना दोघांनी महावीरच्या छोट्या आणि मोठ्या भाच्याची कामे छान केली आहेत . विनोदाची गरज पूर्ण केली आहे . आई साकरणार्‍या साक्षीवर मात्र अन्याय झाला आहे . एवढ्या चांगल्या अभिनेत्रीला फक्त बॅकग्राऊंड वर राहायचं काम आहे . तिने काम छान केले आहे . आमीर खान ने खरोखरच चांगले काम केले आहे . बर्‍याच वेळी आमीर खान ला पाहत असताना हा आमीरच आहे असच वाटत राहत. पण इथे मात्र स्टार वॅल्यू पुसून त्याने महावीर समर्थपणे साकारला आहे . हा त्याच्या सर्वोत्तम performance पैकी एक आहे .



                                                      यात सगळ्यात रंगत आणली आहे ती कुस्ती matches ने . त्या दोन्ही भागात आहेत आणि अत्यंत 'thrilling' आहेत . त्यावर खरच खूप चांगले काम झाले आहे . या matches आपल्याला खिळवून ठेवतात आणि हा सिनेमा आहे हे विसरून प्रेक्षक गीताच्या बाजूने समरस होतात . कुस्तीचे नियम समजावून देण्याच्या प्रसंग ही अत्यंत छान जमलेला आहे . किमान या matches साठी तरी हा सिनेमा मोठ्या पडद्यावरच पाहणे चांगले !




Being Sachinist- The Journey with Sachin Tendulkar


                                           (This article I have written just after his retirement from ODI) 

That day I like usually logged into my accounts of Orkut & Facebook . In one of the Sachin community of orkut, saw a thread , ‘Tendulkar retires from ODI ’ Firstly couldn’t believe that at all. These days we watch & read so much speculation about Sachin’s retirement from so called experts  media cooked stories that do we believe anything on this ? So I too couldn’t. But in the same thread sad comment started appearing with Sachin’s statement. Then I became somewhat serious. Without wasting any time , quickly I visited some cricket web sites which I trust. And there too the same news appeared in bold letters. Shock & disbelief suddenly went through my heart. Though that was expected some day, not at this time, not at all ! Big Lump suddenly came into my throat . I quickly turned off my PC without reading full news. I consoled myself that keep these tears for his last ODI which he will play against Pakistan series. I of course expected he will play farewell series, because there was news day before that he is going to play Pak series. So, to know his retirement news descriptively I switched on news channels & suddenly there I came to know that he is not playing upcoming series either & Asia Cup match vs. Pak will be his last one , then I couldn’t control myself. Tears filled my eyes & memories of him facing likes of Mcgrath , Lee , Warne , Vas, Malinga , Murli , Akram, wakar , Shaoaib , Saklen, Donald , Steyn, Pollock ,Kallis , Walsh, Ambrose, etc. etc. were continuously coming . Can’t compare my that mental condition, pain & day with any other day in my life. After all, I grew with Sir Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar !

                                                     From my childhood to this day Sachin always laid his emphasis on me in many ways. What I learned from my parents or read or taught by teachers was happening live in front of me. From how to reach in a top position from common kid , importance of practice & hard work & dedication in life, how to keep head cool in hardships & how to defeat those hardships both on the ground & off the ground. Being physically handicapped it was so important to me to keep me motivated in something. I still remember the day when I first saw him on T.V. May be it was 1993 . Before that cricket was just a sport to me . Rather boring. My grandpa was a cricket fan so he was watching the match whenever it was on TV. He told me what it was all about , rules & all. Being just 4 years old it was impossible to keep this in mind. Naturally it was boring to me all time. But on that day I saw Sachin Tendulkar first time. Though cricket was not known to me 80 % , still I could see difference between him & other batsmen. How easily he was hitting the ball, crossing the boundary & how easily & rapidly he was scoring runs in comparison of others. I curiously asked mom, “Who is he ?” She replied : “Sachin Tendulkar .” From that day I am the die hard fan of him till now ! 
                                                        Those days of course I was still not that much aware of cricket. But became fan of Sachin Tendulkar more than a blind fan. Whenever match was there I was interested in nothing more than just Sachin. Whenever he comes to bat I was ready with my bat in home. Imitating him playing everytime. Even I was considering myself him. So was playing the same shots Sachin played . For eg. If he played cover drive on TV I was doing same on my next delivery. Forcing others to bowl the same delivery Sachin faced. And even when he got out, I also used to do the same in same way. Sometimes when he already lost his wicket before my switching on T.V. It was the huge disappointment & cry for me. My 3-5 years passed like this. Whenever he was out , I used to be always in huge surprise why he got out ? What happened wrong? It was still clear if it was bowled & high catch. But other ways like caught behind, close catch, LBW , Stumped were not always clear for me. 
                                                   And may be it was the same time after when I used to take interest in Cricket fully & also in other aspects of that . It was the beginning of 1995. And that was the period of 94 – 95 , I started to take interest in cricket in a positive way & in each aspect of it. By understanding it I became Sachin fan & admired him even more. But this time it was very different thing. The blindness of following him was gone & it was real admiration by knowing what he is exactly doing. Before that he was angel, magician, superman type for me. But that time I really came to know who was he & why he was so important to cricket. He was not god for me like any other fan I openly say that. Or should I say when I grew old more & taken interest in cricket it all came me in more realistic way. May be because am more practical & rational. But then from god he was becoming most perfect batsman I have ever seen . 

                                                 That process was not complete in 94-95. It fully completed & he became most perfect batsman for me in the great year 1998. Meanwhile I was enjoying him in more realistic way and admiring him & his greatness day by day especially in ODI cricket. Started to understanding various shots in cricket & beauty. When I first read about some batsman that his some shot was beautiful, I wondered what so special & beautiful in hitting the ball? Yes , it is thrill but beauty? I understood the beauty in it when saw Sachin hitting drives all over & fielders running to get a ball. Many of his great innings I witnessed in that period. Test cricket was more difficult to understand because of more calculations, two inning total, lead , trail, follow on & all that. ODI was simple like ‘ team scoring more runs , wins’ also test cricket was time consuming. So because of schools couldn’t see it more like that of Test cricket. ODI cricket was simple, less time & still no less skillful cricket than test cricket. That because of legends in almost every team making opponents win very difficult. Only geniuses could overpower them . Tendulkar was of course greatest brand ambassador of ODI cricket. 

                                                          And in this atmosphere came the ‘World Cup 1996’ in India. It was the real treat for cricket fans like us. By this time I gained the much more knowledge of cricket at least in ODI . And I started to admire other legends in cricket also. In that decade of 90’s cricket saw more legends than any other decade. But still Sachin was hero & was king of cricket undoubtedly. Till this time I only watched India’s matches & teams against which India played. But this was the real chance to see the different legends & teams on same platform. And it was a wonderful experience for me. Again it was proved that Sachin is way ahead than any other. And it was the same time when I first saw India loosing even when Sachin performing. And it was the time when the whole world sensed how team India dependent rather totally on Sachin & leaving everything on him. In fact whole India including me expecting Sachin to win the world cup for India. Because he was totally on his peak of his career. ( Well, this man was in his peak form almost everytime. But those 10 years from 1993 -2003 really define him as Sachin Tendulkar) But all were forgetting team consist of 11 players. But this man was having no complaint whatsoever. In a game of Australlia I first witnessed how Indian batting is entirely dependent on Tendulkar. That was a real showcase match in Mumbai my hometown. All were interested in Sachin –Mcgrath, Sachin- Warne battle same like me. Aus scored 250 runs. And at that it was a match winning score like 300-320 of today. World class bowling attack in almost every team except India was the reason, And on those conditions two early wickets lost early. And then Sachin started raining in boundaries. He totally attacked mcgrath & started rain of shots everywhere. Took 25 + runs in first two overs of him. It is still considered horrible run rate in this time. That time it was tsunami + hurricane. Same he done with Warne. It was a trailer of Sachin – Warne epic battles in future. 250 runs were looking at a cakewalk for India. And after 90 + runs Sachin stumped on mark Waugh ball. His most rare form of getting out. I was frustrated & strongly felt “ Match geli” (Match slipped through India’s hands) same happened. Then came semi final of Sri-Lanka. The day of my b’day. India’s win & Sachin’s century could be a real gift for me. But on that day after toss India put Sri lanka bat. Though was not fully aware of reason , still cursed Azhar because batting first was not anytime good decision to put opponent in pressure. Later some years when I read about this match then I realized how biggest blunder that was because that was a turning track. Batting second on slow & turning pitch was suicidal. Still in this condition bowlers managed to pick jaysurya early & restrict Sl to 250. And then again Indian batsman started felling like house of cards. But as usual Sachin was raining runs & playing defensively whenever needed. Unaware of what is turning pitch I started to wonder what is happening to all batsmen & why only Sachin can play? Later when I read about turning track , respect for him increased 10 times because that defined the class of him . But on that day only Sachin could get 65 & after his wicket India was 8-120 & match given to sl because of spectators anger. Those memories I still can’t forget & in that w.cup. I learnt valuable lesson in life, whatever the situation is, may nobody help u , but true warrior should get going. 

                                                     From that world cup, Sachin became close to my heart & somebody close rather than just my hero. Also pride of India & me. Sachin started to become inspiration in my life than just hero. I thought I can’t be a cricketer & can’t be him but I will be like him someday. Again next years went the same. Tendulkar was still going strong. And the most fearsome & complete than any other day. He was impressed with match winning innings . And scene of he driving the ball beautifully straight & between covers and fielders running behind it , but it feels more like they are running with fear as if blast had happened somewhere. Same was his pulls & glances. Facing of him with bowling legends was delight to watch. Many batting legends were introduced & going strong. I enjoyed there batting too & respected them a lot. But no one can come near Sachin was became my opinion & of course still it is. Technology in cricket telecasting was also improved & they were showing wagon wheel , runs scored by a batsman etc. etc. Always it was thrilling to watch the graph of Tendulkar vs. other players. And it was many times clearly seen that Tendulkar vs. opponent team picture was most fruitful than even after adding 2-3 players other than him. As a Sachin fan it was always delightful to see those pictures especially vs. Aus to see how easily he dominated on them. I really can’t explain these experience in words. This will always be in my memories. 

                                                             Meanwhile Azhar’s captaincy was started failing continuously & India was not doing well. We all wanted Sachin to captain India & so one day he became. I felt so happy that day. It was like I have recived some honor myself. But sadly it didn’t go well. He could not became as successful captain as he could be. He never performed poorly his avg. was very good & he was leading good . But he never got support from some other players. Slowly that pressure started to affect his performance & again Azhar renamed as captain. That was a sad day for me as I really wanted him to be a successful captain. 

                                           Then came that awesome innings of Sharjah, which is still considered as one of the greatest innings in ODI. That inning was really one of the perfect & finest innings of him. It was a very good innings against quality attack. Because Sachin alone played there outstandingly. I remember the every moment of both innings. First inning where it was difficult rather almost impossible to qualify for finals in those conditions. But because of his innings India not only qualified but came in the position to win. But after Sachin’s wicket couldn’t win that. Again in finals he scored & India won that tournament. I still remember most of both innings even with commentary like , “six , going going gone, what a player, what a player, the only player most closet to bradman’ then that sandstorm , even remember the straight drive which gone into non striker ganguly’s direction and he ducked & smiled back to him. Remember each & every bit of him . When he greeted with the bat, it was felt like he is showing that bat to me ! 

                                         Then come 1999 world cup. Sachin played again played very well in that tournament. But more limelight & success were received by Rahul & Saurav. But there was a inning of Sachin in bristal that was greatest inning in that world cup easily. Before that inning Sachin lost his father and he went to home. But after one match absence he again came to play like a true warrior by keeping emotions aside. He played 140* against Kenya. Kenya was weak opponent , but under which circumstance he came & he played it was a real masterpiece. In Sachin’s absence India couldn’t even defeat Zimbabwe. And then he came like a soldier appearing on his duty. That time in our area recently a mall was opened. So we went to see it. I was confused because I was first seeing the mall in my life. We came into a restaurant. Indian inning was just started & Sachin came to batting. I felt relived. That was my familiar world. That was my comfort zone. And I watched the whole inning there & after the century all restaurant gave him a standing ovation. That was again a teaching moment for me a lesson of ‘Duty first’ Till 2003 again it was the same thing . He amazing all with his skills & shots & runs. Really like already said can’t write those things in words. Just unable to write these feelings into words. Those moments are precious & still alive in the memories. Period of his playing in 1993-2003 just out of this world!

                                                Meanwhile again he became captain and started his journey with winning stroke. In this period there was so tough situation for him to face on the field. It was really high pressure period. From controversial match fixing topic to groupeizm in team. Also cheating from opponent team . In 1999 aus tour the umpiring was really at his worst. And they clearly favored Australia. Many times they gave him false out. But Sachin didn’t act rudely. That period as a captain he always had to speak a lot. But he never lost temper or criticized other players in the team. That time & every time he always remains humble in nature. Never behaves like I am the best batsman ever. This politeness & humbleness is always a very good lesson for me. Whenever I got award or received appreciation I always kept that thing in mind. When in those times match fixing topic was at it’s best. Many Indians & world cricket players were pointed in that. But for Sachin nobody could point finger on him. Because he gained that trust in all those years. This time also he couldn’t be captain till long. He himself left the captaincy & I had to accept his decision with heavy hearts. 
                                                    Saurav became the new captain. By that time match fixing was very much under control & those clouds got cleared from Indian cricket. Under Saurav & John wright Indian cricket was getting new height. Players like Jumbo, Rahul & VVS were developed outstandingly as match winners. New players like Veeru , Zaheer & Bhajji also contributed towards a great success. Sachin was always on top but burden was him reduced to some extent, unlike 90’s where team was totally dependent on him & his wicket means match gone. Now India became strong as a unit. And Sachin was contributing huge to team towards a great success. 

                                                    In 2003 world cup India reached till finals after 20 years. And Sachin performed outstandingly superb with 673 runs on the whole. World witness one more greatest knock in ODI where Sachin scored 98 of just 75 balls against Pakistan. Pakistan batting first posted a huge total of 273 which was victorious for them having Wasim, Wakar & Shoaib . But Sachin from the first ball , where he took strike first time on first ball just to protect or guide Viru from Wasim’s bowling. That was again a proof of He thinks India more than himself. And he started attacking beautifully. Shoaib was too overconfident about his speed that day. And in his second over he hit beautiful six to him. Took 14 runs from his over & Shoaib refused to bowl next over ! That was enough to say Sachin was in a very different mood that day. Even with back to back wickets of Viru & Dada he kept his head cool & didn’t lost tempo of run rate. He got cramps in his legs & till the end it became very painful. But it was no need of running. Because in almost all over he was striking one or two glorious boundaries. But in the end he took runner but on very next delivery he got out of Shoaib’s ‘Throwed’ ball. Shoaib really threw the ball which became unplayable for him in that condition. He missed the century made match winning 98. But those 2 runs can’t take away greatness of that innings. Easliy one of the greatest ODI knock & my most favourite knock of him. But in finals again when he got out, India lost. But of course there was a huge score to chase. He was committed to win the world cup. But we couldn’t do it in 2003. He got man of the tournament in that, but he said he is not happy with this award. Because he wanted the other trophy. Which again showed he values the team most than himself . 

                                              Meanwhile read many of his interviews where he spoke about his journey . His struggle for cricket , his hectic schedule of school & practice , after that practice on hanging ball in home his passion & concentration , wetting the ball & playing on it just to practice the uneven bounce. These were so important lessons in my life. And it became a guideline how to chase a dream which is your passion ! And then came the most hard phase in his life . Injury of tennis elbow! That tennis elbow phase was the hardest phase in his life. First time in his career he didn’t played for almost a year. 
                                                  
                                                   And after then he faced a most huge badpatch in his career. He was not remained as a dominant batsman as he was before. He was not scoring runs that regularly that he was. And whenever he was scoring he wasn’t that Sachin Tendulkar whom all world knows. Many times gave wicket to less skilled bowlers. Talks of his retirement started and were always troubling him. Immense pressure started to fall on him. But still he was cool minded. And when he regained his form he always silenced critics with his bat. But that phase of 2005-2007 was a very difficult for me as a Sachinist. All were criticizing him & telling him to retire. I was surprised how can anyone be so rude to him to rule out the career of 15-16 year like that ? But was feeling like am alone Sachin fan left on this planet. And in the same period superstitions regarding him began :1. Watch his inning in full concentration & no disturbance 2. No surfing channels in break between overs 3. Either watch his inning start to end or not to watch at all (It is my experience that whenever I switched off during his batting he was out) 4.Switching of the mobiles completely & not to talk with anyone during that etc. etc. 

                                                  About that injury he spoke later. That: “It was so tough like I was feeling like this is a end of my career. There was a phase when I couldn’t even lift a plastic bat.” But still how he kept his head cool & believed on himself. Those lines are always in my heart. Are always inspirational for me. Taught me how to remain positive in most difficult situation it helped me many ways. From difficult situations to illness. Even when I was ill & hospitalized in this October , negative thoughts were coming in mind continuously. But I always tried to kept myself positive by recollecting his lines. 

                                                       After 2007 world cup again he improved tremendously. His bad patch was over & he came back to normal & continued thrashing bowlers as always. From 2009 he started to play lesser ODI’s to concentrate on test & to keep himself fit to play 2011 world cup. 2010 he had tremendous year in tests where he scored 7 centuries in that year against various teams. He played only one ODI that year. But who can forget that ? 

                                                             Actually at that time it was my college exam in few days & I had to study hard for that because it was incomplete. When I switched on the T.V. for some time I saw Sachin in confident pose & in mood to thrash the bowlers. I switched of the T.V. as I had study plus I couldn’t watch it a second more because I knew I can’t watch his full inning because of study. The superstition of either watch him full or completely don’t was still fresh in mind. So deciding not to take risk I resumed my study. When he in his 150’s relative called me to say he scored 150 & still many overs are left. Now I couldn’t control myself immediately stopped studying & switched on T.V. Next 50 runs I was completely with him imagining scoring every run with him. I was so closed to him that when he touched that 200 I felt I have achieved something in my life. Even the commentary of that ball is still fresh in my mind. It was a perfect indicator that how ready he was for next world cup. 

                                                             Sachin had climbed every record-mountain- from highest ODI run getter to highest Test run getter and from most number of international centuries in both formats to play most number of international matches, every run Tendulkar scores update the cricket record book on its own. Critics were saying that World Cup triumph still remains for the little master but I was knowing , cricket is a team game and winning World Cup is a team job. No one player can be accounted for winning or not winning a tournament like World Cup . But still with a career like of Tendulkar, even the smallest of doubt on his commitment disturbed me and like a five-year old kid who wants every toy he sees , I wanted him to win the World Cup this time and silence his critics for once & for all. 

                                                              So then in 2011 W.C. he again gone strong & became India’s highest run scorer. He lead to many victories with Yuvi & Zaheer. But at final he again gone early like Veeru. I almost felt like crying. Felt this world cup is also gone. Memories of 2003 W.C. again came. But thankfully by Gauti & MSD’s brilliant knock we won ! That was the happiest moment for India cricket & of course for Sachin. His longest dream came true. When rest of the players carried him on their shoulders , I saluted him 100 times. Virat Kohli explained our emotions in correct manner : “ For the last 23 years , he carried nation’s burden on his shoulders. ” Those memories are again still fresh in my mind. 

                                                                 Then again came lean patch for him & also on India. Pressure of his 100th 100 becoming very strong day by day. And he wasn’t doing it. His average slowed down. His retirement talks again came . I was in huge disappointment & worry that what if he can’t do it ? Will he retire ? I wanted to complete his that century because I felt it was his right. And then He completed that in Asia Cup. Again joyful moment . shivering of hands , unable to speak a word. Again saluted him & his career 100*100 times. It was a pride for me that my Sachin achieved that stage. During Asia cup movie ‘Kahani’ was released. I heard lot of appreciation of it & wanted to watch it. I got ticket of movie for the day of India vs. Pak match. But then I thought I will watch the highlights later , because that was a suspense movie friends could reveal the suspense & will spoil the fun ? Who knew that will be the last ODI match of him? The pain of couldn’t watch him in his last innings will always remain in my heart. I wanted to give a proper farewell to him. And player like him deserves proper farewell more than anyone. I really felt sad on 23rd December when he declared his retirement without proper farewell. 

                                                     I hope you are reading this master. Please, I request you please play in blue jersey of India one last time . You deserve the proper Farwell. 

                                                     At last , What is Sachin to ODI cricket? I will say just one line : If ever 50 over format flourishes more, had glowed, became profitable , people understands cricket more easily or addicted to & tons & tons of kids coming to the cricket with a hope in their eyes, Thanks to this man !! Enough Said !!
